Home to The University of North Carolina at Charlotte founded in 1946, University City is a prime college town. The area is quickly flourishing since the school is growing drastically. UNC-Charlotte offers 79 Bachelor degree programs, 64 Master’s degree programs and 21 Doctoral degree programs.
The University Research Park is one of the largest research parks in the state and is located here. With over 30,000 employees it is the second largest employment center within the second largest retail center in the region.
An area residents and students love to go around the university is called the Shoppes at University Place. It is located across from campus and features restaurants, shopping places, the Hilton Hotel and apartments.
For fitness lovers, Mallard Creek, Clark’s Creek and Toby Creek greenways link the research park with University Place, Town Center, and UNC-Charlotte’s campus. With almost 12 miles of paths, exploring University City just got a little easier.
PNC Music Pavilion is a couple miles down the road from the college, making it a huge concert success during the summer months. Another great business that brings people to the area is the store IKEA which is well known for its furniture, appliances and accessories.
Just around the corner is the town of Concord. With many attractions such as Concord Mills, Great Wolf Lodge and Charlotte Motor Speedway, residents never have a problem finding activities to do in free time.
